HSS STAFF FUN AND FROLIC


On April 19th 2012, the staff of Pope John XXIII Higher Secondary School, Quepem ventured for a day’s outing to Spice Village,Khandepar. 
 

 A warm welcome and a cup of lemon grass tea awaited us on arrival. 

 
Without much ado, we set off on a tour of the spice farm and the flower nursery, having fun and also imbibing useful health information along the way. 



On returning to base, we were served a delicious traditional Goan meal.



The stout-hearted among us even dared to take a boat ride on the crocodile-infested waters. 


Indeed, a place to be highly recommended for a day in the embrace of nature!

EXPRESS YOUR FAITH


On 17th March 2012, Faith Band – a popular religious music group of Goa performed at Don Bosco Quepem before a crowd of over 400 people of the neighbourhood. 



Through its interactive and lively style, the group helped the participants to praise and worship God with music and dancing as also in the silence of their hearts.


This beautiful faith experience was organized by Fr. Anisio Mota and the Past Pupils of Don Bosco Quepem.

KANAGAL DREAMS ......


“Dreams do come true!” exclaimed cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar on completing his hundredth ton. And Bro. Frank Braganza of Don Bosco Quepem agrees most heartily!  
  


With the blessing and laying of the foundation stone at Kanagal, Quepem on 16th March 2012 by Fr. Ian Figueiredo, Provincial of Panjim-Konkan in the presence of Mr. Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar, MLA of Quepem and Mr. Michael Lobo, MLA of Calangute, Bro. Frank's long-cherished dream of a state-of-the-art technical institute to provide skills training for the poor and tribal youth has taken its nascent steps towards realization.
    

Wearing a smile of quiet satisfaction on his cherubic face, Bro. Frank happily posed in front of the commemorative plaque.

SALESIAN FAMILY DAY 2012


On Sunday, March 4th 2012, over 125 salesian family members of the Panjim-Konkan Province gathered around the Provincial, Rev. Fr. Ian Figueiredo to celebrate their Annual Salesian Family Day at Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda. Don Bosco Quepem was represented by four Salesians, 9 Cooperators and 12 Past Pupils. 


After a presentation of the Rector Major’s Strenna 2012 by the Provincial Delegate, Fr. Savio Gomes, the members participated in the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Rev. Fr. Provincial.  This was followed by an entertaining cultural programme, during which our group from Quepem performed a lively action song. A sumptuous lunch concluded the celebration.

FR. PROVINCIAL ANNOUNCES CHILD PROTECTION POLICY


Rev. Fr. Ian Figueiredo, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Panjim-Konkan visited our institution on February 25th 2012.  During the school assembly, he urged the students to dream big dreams and work hard to make them come true. 



He further held a conference for the management and the school staff, outlining lucidly and emphatically the Child Protection Policy to be followed in our Salesian institutions.

FAREWELL DAY PROGRAMMES



At the close of the academic year, the outgoing students of Std. XII and X were given a fond and fitting farewell by their teachers and juniors.
                                                                                         

 

 


They participated in a solemn holy mass seeking the blessings of God on their life’s aspirations.
       


In an impressive ceremony, the school leaders then handed over their flags, sashes and badges to the Headmaster, Fr. Anisio Mota. 





The cultural programme staged for their benefit was followed by party games and refreshments for all.





MOCK TRIAL AT POPE JOHN HSS


On 13th February 2012, students of Pope John XXIII Higher Secondary and their parents were witness to a “mock trial” conducted by the Free Legal Aid Cell of V. M. Salgaoncar College of Law, Miramar. An accident case was taken up, through which the audience was given an idea of normal court proceedings and various legal terms and roles.


The resource persons also explained to the students the wide range of career opportunities in Law. The programme was coordinated by Ms. Sharmila Da Costa and Mrs. Raziya Fernandes, while Miss Shuble Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks.

ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATIONS

 

The Annual Day of Pope John XXIII Educational Complex was held on February 4th 2012, with Shri Anil V. Powar, Director of Education, Goa as Chief Guest.



Through colourful depictions of its occupations, customs and traditions, the students vividly brought out the theme of the day: Goa - Land of Culture and Harmony.




 

Enthralled by their performances, the Chief Guest was led down memory lane, reminiscing about his childhood and the serenity of traditional Goa. He also presented the annual scholarships and awards to the winners who received them with pride and joy on their faces.

 

Kudos to our staff members for the excellent training imparted to the students!

HSS ANTI-TOBACCO SEMINAR


On 23rd January 2012 a seminar on Tobacco-free Schools was organized for the students of the higher secondary section by Mrs. Albertina Joseph. 


The resource person for the day was Mrs. Vedita Hedge Dessai, Associate Professor at Goa College of Pharmacy. The students listened with rapt attention as she explained very lucidly and forcefully the harm that cigarette-smoking causes to our health.

VISIT OF NEWLY-ORDAINED PRIESTS

On January 9th 2012, our newly-ordained priests, Fr. Royston D'souza and Fr. Jason Coelho, accompanied by Fr. Banzelao Teixeira, celebrated the Holy Eucharist for the senior students of Pope John XXIII High School. 

 Introducing them to the assembled gathering, Fr. Anisio Mota, the Head Master invited the students to discern the call of God in their lives and respond generously to His promptings. 

After Mass, the Salesian priests and the boys gathered for a deeper discussion on matters pertaining to Salesian life.

HSS MOTIVATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME



On January 6th 2012 the staff of Pope John XXIII Higher Secondary and the students of Std. XI participated in motivational training workshops conducted by Dr. Allan Abreu and Ms. Karuna Satardekar of GVM’s College of Education, Ponda.

Dr. Allan Abreu, who currently holds the post of officiating Principal of GVM’s College, conducted lively sessions on The Seven Habits for Highly Effective Teachers.  His vitality and vigour were highly contagious. Accomplished musician that he is, action songs played a vital role in his presentations.





Through power point presentations, group activities and examples from the lives of great personages, Ms. Karuna Satardekar made the students of Std. XI realize the importance of time management and taught them practical ways of motivating themselves to achieve greater heights.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by our Teacher Coordinator, Ms. Sharmila Da Costa, and one of our students, Ms. Elodie Goes.
